Baby Blankets

I have been working on baby blankets recently. I have a new grandson on the way and mom loves camoflauge. So I hope she loves this blanket. It is the Drops In A Pond blanket design. You can see more examples of the ones I have made here.

I also finished a lap, nap, cot blanket. It is a Circle In A Square design. It is great way to use up scraps. I worked on the squares in the morning while riding the bus with students. Funny but watching me crochet helped keep them calm and interested. So I showed them the finished product when I put the squares together and made the blanket. It will either go to a school for a pre-k class or I may let a school auction it off during fall festival. Unless I sell it before then. In which case I will make another one for the school!

Oh! How do you like my babies that are using the blankets? The little girl on the left is a reborn doll by Jenni Sholter and the other is a doll I have had for a while.

Well I am on to other crochet projects that are on my list. Now that I will be home for a couple of months I have made a list of projects I want to work on. Amazing how that list keeps growing every day.

the Day of the Octopuses by Karissa Cole 2013

Have you ever had one of those moments where you just had to sit down? Like, you hear some particularly stunning news, and your brain just can’t process this information and run the muscles needed to keep you standing at the same time. All of your surroundings go a bit blurry, time becomes nothing more than a four letter word, and everything else just goes completely unnoticed, as your mind works feverishly to sort out whatever it was that stunned it so. These kinds of moments seem to happen with an alarming frequency in my life. Most often on a Tuesday.

I should’ve known something was up. Things had been quiet for at least 3 weeks. Think that’s some kind of record for me. All things considered, I’ve had stranger stuff happen, though. But, then again, I might just be getting used to it.

So, this all started earlier this…

I wanted to add to my line of sleep sacks or cocoons (as I prefer to call them) for sale. So I went with a flower since it is summer. I also think a rose would be beautiful and would make one as a custom order. In the past, I have done ladybugs, dogs, ice cream and others. Let me know what you think of the design. I think these make great baby shower gifts because they are different and one of a kind.

The beautiful reborn doll was done by Jenni Sholter. I call her Sarah. She is 3 to 6 month size. Most of the cocoons I make are preemie and newborn but I thought she deserved something to sleep in.

Future Studio

Now that I am in my new house, I am finally getting a studio for my Nadine Creates business. Right now we are in the first stages. But look! Can’t you see the potential? I have 2 windows for plenty of light. There will be storage for yarns and other supplies for the future expansion of the business. More on that later. I have a new creative partner and can’t wait to show you what we plan! In the meantime, I am back to work on a new cocoon sleep sack I am designing. I will share it in my next post.

Custom crochet

I have finally moved and am able to really focus on Nadine Creates now that life has settled down. These last couple of months have allowed me to figure out what I really like doing crochet wise. I find I enjoy making custom items. So now I will be concentrating on giving people a selection of items to chose from and then color and size choices. I had a quick turn around in the past and think it will be even faster in the future since I have a dedicated craft room now! Plus more time since I cut down on my secular work hours so I could be home with my husband more.

I have also decided to limit my sales to Facebook and direct email instead of Etsy.  I love Etsy but little shops like mine get lost with the new guidelines Etsy has. I will have an album on my Facebook page so you can see what I have made in the past. I am also always open to suggestions and request. Some of my best sales have come from customers sending me a picture and asking me if I can make it! I hope everyone likes my changes and if you have any suggestions please leave them in the comments. I read everyone.

I have put a few pictures of my work below but if someone really wants to see it they could just look at some former posts or go to Jenni Sholter’s Facebook page
